MY ROOTS.
My name is Kevin Kinghorn,
I am an Outdoor Travel and Lifestyle Creative previously living anywhere and everywhere out of my Toyota Prius but now residing currently in Salt Lake City, Utah. After living a year and a half on the road, visiting the vast and beautiful states of the west and 4 overseas countries, I chose to relocate to Utah due to its amazing outdoor accessibility and its dire need of support to protect public lands. My personal intuition to make a difference with my work, where it’s used, and how it gives back to protect the areas that make it possible to create the life I love.
I grew up in the Northwest in a small south suburb of Seattle, Washington called Des Moines. The evergreen state was where my love for the outdoors became an affliction and ultimately; a career. Growing up with the Cascades as a playground to then working off the sweat of my brow led to a journey of growth that no other career field has led me to. From working in field on frozen tundras to serene southern desert landscapes, I found the most impactful work comes form authentic experiences.
SLOWLY I WAS LESS INTERESTED IN WHAT TO CAPTURE AND MORE EXCITED ABOUT HOW TO CAPTURE. THOSE DAYS WERE A LOT MORE RUN AND GUN AND A LOT LESS PLAN ORIENTED… AND I WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
My approach to my work comes from a root understanding of the use of the content, what the key driving metrics, as well as the intended use of the work. I’ve worked in house on marketing teams as a Marketing Specialist specializing in D2C and B2B strategies, often creating and managing full funnel marketing concepts.
I spent 4 years at Backcountry.com turning my climbing, skiing, and mountaineering experience into certification and professional knowledge. This allowed me to create relationships between B2B as well as manage driving conversion sales in a book of business creating B2C strategies to engage consumers in the funnel as well as understand use of well rounded marketing concepts. With my book of business at BC I was able to manage and generate over 1 mil. in my first 9 months within the Sales and Marketing role.
I moved to Utah in 2017 but have been traveling through this portion of the US seasonally the last six years. It made sense to come here as a long time climber. Utah is where a many great alpinists, skiers, and outdoor enthusiast have come to test themselves, climbing new areas to explore. Plus having the desert in a high alpine in a state with seasons is a huge motivator.
In my current role, I specialize in design, marketing concepts, SEM, and D2C marketing strategies for a biotech company called Checkerspot, Inc. specifically marketing the consumer facing brand WNDR Alpine. WNDR Alpine is a sustainable backcountry ski and split board manufacturer based here in Salt Lake City, UT. For this role I am designing digital ads and creating visuals in field, requiring logistical planning, long days with heavy packs, as well as delivering on tight timelines.
You can now usually spot me, in my white 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser either movin or broken down on the side of the road, always in pursuit of good views and better climbs (slowly going through the 50 Classic Lines and Summits of North America.)
I’ve been taking photos commercially since 2013.
I try to spark meaningful moments in every detail to capture the true feeling and genuine intent to better connect with my subject; the viewer.
